The Role

! As a member of Carboniteâs UX team, youâll be responsible for guiding the design of new products that will grow and transform Carboniteâs business. We want to create user-centric products and ensure this is a shared Company-wide vision. In addition to our core products, you will be working on new tools and innovations, as well as ways to evolve our designs and thinking. Based on a solid understanding of business and user needs, you will be responsible for designing the UI for multiple product lines, serving as a resident design expert, and helping teach others in the organization about UX best practices.
As a Principal User Experience Designer, you must enjoy working in a collaborative environment, be willing to iterate, have a quick-wit, and be deeply passionate about designing products that meet the needs of the customer. In addition to overseeing the web-based product design, this person will also provide specific strategic recommendations on future produ! cts, mobile usability, mobile design and mobile integration with existi! ng products. The Principal Designer must have strong leadership skills to work with product managers and Engineering, as well as the UX team. This person will help define the holistic vision for both the short and long-term timeframe for both the web and mobile product strategy.
Specific Objectives
First three months
- Develop an understanding of the business, product line, brand and the Carbonite user
- Develop an understanding of how both the UX team works, as well as the specific product team to which you are assigned
- Learn the tools and become comfortable with the UX process we adopt here at Carbonite
- Observe and incorporate research findings into work
- Work well on a team and engage them in defining the vision
- Have an opinion about UX-related topics and be able to share with the group
- Be open to feedback
- Define the look and feel for a! ll Carbonite products, partnering with our Marketing team
- Coordinate a consistent design between Marketing, Engineering, and Product Design and be the trusted liaison between the various groups
- Oversee all design from the UX group to ensure consistency across all products
- Design and facilitate collaborative sessions with stakeholders and UX team
- Become an expert on the projects you are assigned to
- Ensure product aligns with overarching Carbonite goals and the brand
- Incorporate research into design work and collaborate with research team
- Be proactive about work and product needs
- Serve as an evangelist for mobile thinking across all of Carbonite
- Be viewed as a confident leader within the UX team
- Be considered a great asset to any team

- Experience designing web applications; SaaS issues, and working with a! nd defining component and design pattern libraries
- Knowledge o! f user research techniques, including field studies, interviews, and usability testing
- Graphic and wireframe (UX) design skills
- Bachelorâs or Master's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors/Ergonomics or similar discipline or equivalent experience
- Experience working in an AGILE environment a plus
