Location: Leominster Massachusetts

The Unit Secretary performs a variety of clerical and administrative support tasks to help foster smooth, efficient patient care activities on an assigned nursing unit.

PR! INCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Job duties specific to this position:
Greets and directs visitors, and provides basic information on policies and procedures or direct requests to appropriate persons as outlined by Hospital CARES program.
Answers phones promptly and assists with answering call lights.
Assists in maintaining the order, organization and currency of logs and records and patient charts. Helps ensure an efficient sharing of information within the unit.
Processes information needed for a variety of patient services and treatment areas such as radiology, the laboratory, dietary, housekeeping.
Enters and tracks data into Soarian Financials system pertaining to admissions, training and discharges.
Arranges for laboratory tests, radiology procedures, treatments for rehab. services such as physical therapy, etc.
Assists in maintaining proper inventory of standard supplies and materials. Prepares requisitions to maintai! n established levels. Maintains all billing receipts.
Prep! ares for new admissions and discharges by securing admission kits, chart labels, room labels, forms and checking rooms for readiness. Assembles charts, adds patient’s name to census list, processes diet slip and other admission information.
Performs a variety of routine clerical and computerized duties, such as sorting and faxing information and forms, maintaining or creating files, records and logs, taking and relaying phone messages and routine information.
Arranges for patient transport.
Keeps waiting areas, conference room and grief sitting areas organized and stocked with information.
Participates in training and performance improvement activities as directed.

Demonstrates excellent work attendance and attends and actively parti! cipates in a variety of meetings and training sessions as required.

Communicates ideas effectively. Shares information and keeps others properly informed. Gives, and is open to useful feedback.
Adheres to the HealthAlliance Hospital Code of Conduct and Behavior Standards. Complies with established policies and procedures and all regulatory and health and safety requirements.
Maintains, and fosters, a clean, safe work environment.
Actively contributes to the development and application of process improvements.
Maintains a collaborative, team relationship with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the group’s achievement of goals and to help foster a positive work environment.
Demonstrates respect for the diversity of patient and employee populations. Supports and encourages diverse points of view, work and lifestyles.
Practices cost containmen! t and fiscal responsibility through the efficient use of supplies, equi! pment, time, etc.
Performs a variety of related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Ability to perform a wide range of standard clerical skills and work efficiently in a direct patient care area.
Ability to use computers to record, reference and enter information accurately, and quickly learn new software applications. Basic proficiency with MS Windows and Office applications.
Ability to represent the hospital by presenting a professional and customer focused image resulting in positive customer interactions.
Proficient in patient care communication skills.
Able to read, write and speak clearly in English.

EDUCATION:
High School diploma

EXPERIENCE:
6-12 months in a healthcare environment preferred .

An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the! above education and experience requirements.
