The Packaging Engineer will work within the Franchis! e Operations New Product Development organization to support p! ackaging needs of new and existing products. This position will serve as the subject matter expert in the areas of medical device packaging design & development and process development & validation for new packaging components and equipment.
Packaging Engineering - Responsible for working with new product development teams to provide development, testing, validation, and implementation of device package designs for new product packaging. Position also supports continuous improvements to and problem resolution and redesign when required of legacy packaging both in-house and at external manufacturers. The individual will be responsible for identification and validation of package materials and suppliers. They will work in compliance with relevant standards such as GMP, ISO, ISTA, and J&J Corporate guidelines. Responsible to lead and/or participate in Harmonization, Quality Risk Remediation and Continuous Improvement Projects as needed at company and franchise level. !
Project Management - Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, R&D and Supply Chain to develop and/or improve packaging designs that are easy to use and compliant to ensure device protection and assurance of sterility. The individual should capable of handling multiple projects with complex scope. Ability to develop, track and maintain project plans and budgets for projects.
Leadership - Individual will participate in projects that involve cross-functional teams with responsibility for all packaging related deliverables. They will also lead Packaging Initiatives with cross-functional stakeholders. Individual will be a Change Champion and an Innovation Leader responsible for identifying and executing initiatives for continuous improvement. Must demonstrate initiative to lead and/or participate in improvement and task teams as needed at company and franchise level.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required, with a concentration! in Packaging Engineering preferred. A minimum of 6 years work experien! ce with 3 years in packaging engineering required. The ideal candidate should embrace change and innovation with a successful record of supporting and leading transformational change across functions involving innovative solutions. Process development experience desirable. Must be able to lead and/or support multiple project teams simultaneously. The candidate must have a proven record of successful project management. Experience with Project Management Excellence is a plus. Medical industry product design experience desirable. Knowledge of sterile packaging material characteristics and validation practices are preferred. Experience in writing and executing design and process validations required. Knowledge of ISO13485 design control and its application to medical device products preferred. Experience in supplier selection/management for medical device components and equipment is required. Statistical analysis knowledge required, Six Sigma Black belt certification preferred! . The candidate should be an excellent communicator - both down, across, and up with experience communicating and presenting to executives. Experience with direct reports is highly desirable. Experience working in integrated cross-functional product development teams is required. Ability to complete financial analyses for capital purchases, estimate manufacturing costs, and estimate component costs is preferred. Must have Microsoft Office proficiency and excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. This position is based in Raynham, MA, and may require travel up to 20%.
