To lead a compound screening team to support enzyme discovery projects through the delivery of compound profiling assays and Wave 1 DMPK! assays and other screens as required. The Team Leader will provide leadership and direction and will contribute to project delivery through the motivation and development of people and line capability. The role holder will be expected to manage risk using evaluative judgments in complicated or novel situations. In addition he/she is expected to have effective levels of interactive communication within the team, with stakeholder groups in Boston and within Screening Science and DMPK departments in Alderley Park and Mölndal. In addition to good people management, leadership and communication skills, desirable skills for this role include:
- Experience and expertise in SAR compound screening and/or DMPK Wave 1 screening compound screening in support of t he DMTA cycle
- Excellent theoretical understanding of molecular enzymology and/or DMPK science
- Good understanding of laboratory automation and its application to compound screening in support! of hit/lead optimization or focused screening
- Expert! ise in detection technologies, including spectroscopic (e.g. absorbance, fluorescence modalities), luminescent and label-free detection
- Expertise in data analysis and conversion of screening data to biological parameters
- A track record of developing cross-boundary partnerships and collaborations to influence working practices to ensure impact of screening data Key Accountabilities:
- To lead a team of approximately 8 direct reports (up to Band 4 level); expected to lead by example making personal contributions to the experimental work of the team
- Ensure stretched objectives, individual development plans, calibrated ! performance evaluations, salary and bonus setting for all team members
- Ensure development of the line competence and team objectives aligned to the section objectives
- Responsible for flexible use of the team skills and resource to support projects according to agreed needs and project priorities.
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies including GLS and SHE
- To contribute to and as part of the section leadership team influence the strategic direction of the team and section.
- Together with the science ladder, to shape and advance the scientific direction of projects and the functional discipline to maximise project support.
- Initiate relevant publications and if applicable timely preparation of patents
- To contribute to the continuous improvement process by identifying opportunities in the workplace where improvements can be made
- May be a member of X-functional or global project or workstream
Requires a thorough understanding of therapeutic needs and therapies in the disease area,and SHE regulations, and personnel policies and procedures. This role demands significant people management experience.

Will have a comprehensive understanding of own team function. Will be expected to have an understanding of overall AZ business and objectives.
Will ensure that the latest advancements in their field is systematically followed by the team, through reading and evaluating current literature and from scientific contacts and scientific mee! tings as appropriate, in order to enhance the teams competitiveness in drug discovery. Ensures that industry standards are applied to team working, keeping track of developments and assessing impact on the function.
Will have a good working knowledge of all relevant company and national regulations. Will understand the necessity for use of animals in research.
Business Impact:
This is a key role in the local Discovery organisation, where the role holder has a direct impact on R&D Discovery output through effective and productive leadership of their team. They will be expected to have a major influence on project decisions through the work of their teams.
Impact is on one function in many locations/multiple countries or a group of functions/business areas primarily in one location/country. May act as a representative for the function within AstraZeneca.
