The Auto Product group has an opening for an Actuary / Assistant Actuary or Director I, Product Research. This person will be responsible managing a team of 3-5 highly technical analysts and actuarial students while leading predictive modeling projects and playing a critical role in shaping the Auto rating program for Liberty Mutualâs multi-billion dollar book of Auto business. The responsibilities of the manager and team include development, implementation, and monitoring of Personal Insuranceâs Liberty Mutual Auto rating program. The team will apply predictive modeling techniques and analysis to shape enhancements to the Auto rating program and will conduct extensive analysis to assess segment level profitability, retention, an! d conversion results to identify areas of opportunity. The man! ager and team will also influence and help shape Liberty Mutualâs overall Auto pricing and product strategy. Creativity as well as analytical rigor will be sought in both evaluating the current Auto rating program and shaping future iterations. The team will collaborate closely with other functional areas such as State Management, Sales & Service, and Claims and will communicate and present findings regularly to senior management.
The position requires strong managerial and communication ability, superior analytical skills, comfort with data and creativity in problem solving. It is also necessary to be able to take on full ownership and drive large and small projects forward to completion. Solid communication and collaboration skills are critical to the role as there will be many interactions with other functional areas (e.g. Finance, Marketing, Distribution, Claims) and continuous opportunities to present to senior management. This position plays a critical role! in helping Personal Insurance achieve its growth and profit goals
Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of 3-5 highly technical research analysts
- Oversee predictive modeling projects and gives direction to staff at all levels of the organization
- Leads large, high complexity and long-term projects and analysis
- Provide strategic and tactical direction on initiatives for product segments countrywide
- Drives research projects to completion through others
- Creates new product strategies and new product concepts individually and through influence
- Prioritizes among projects delivering the highest level of benefit to the organization
- Creates culture of evaluating and developing new techniques for use across departments
- May be responsible for ensuring software/hardware tools meet the needs of staff and are cost effective
- Sponsor projects with team members spanning multiple function! al areas
- Bachelor's degr! ee required. Masterâs degree preferred.
- Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) designation or degree from relevant PhD program preferred
- 4-7 years progressively responsible experience
- Strong analytical skills
